What is a NVQ?
NVQs (National Vocational Qualifications) are qualifications (or awards) achieved through assessment and training.
To achieve an NVQ, candidates must prove that they have the ability (competence) to carry out their job or volunteer role to the required standard. NVQs are based on 'National Occupational Standards' that describe the 'competencies' expected in any given job or volunteer role. Typically, candidates will work towards an NVQ that reflects their role in a paid or volunteer position.
For example, someone volunteering in an organization such as Scouting or Girlguiding may take an NVQ in Activity Leadership, Team Leading, or Management. Someone working or volunteering in community organizations may take an NVQ in Customer Services, Advice and Guidance, Business and Administration, Community Development, and others.
There are five levels of NVQ ranging from Level 1, which focuses on basic work activities, to Level 5 for senior management. BSEL mainly provide NVQs at Level 2 and Level 3.
Learning, development and NVQ qualifications
Learning and development is a natural activity in which we all participate everyday of our lives through real experiences and action. This learning process should be fun.
Your performance will improve when you are fully engaged, mind and body; and motivated by the task in hand. It is then, that you will really learn, and enjoy what you are doing.
You can achieve this state of enjoyment and succeed in your goal, when you:
- know what you want to do;
- know how you are going to do it;
- know how well you are doing;
- are not worried by the thought of failing;
- and are fully involved.
It is our aim to help you achieve this state and succeed in your planned qualification.
